As You Think in Your “Heart” not Your “Head”

Last week while speaking to an audience I said, “Open your spirit to new thoughts on the matter at hand that you’ve never considered.” “Open your spirit to new thoughts” implies that you have the ability to not just think in your “head,” but to think in your “heart.”

Solomon, who was touted as the wisest man of his day (I Kings 4:30) said, “For as he thinks in his heart, so is he. “Eat and drink!” he says to you, but his heart is not with you” (Proverbs 23:7). Notice it says, “As he thinks in his “heart”—not his “head.” It’s not all the thought traffic in your head that determines who you are. It’s the thoughts that you let get past your “head” and sink into your “heart” that make you who you are.

“As you think in your HEART so are you.”  It’s not what you say to “others” about you, but what you say to “you” about you that tells who you really are. I could tell you, “I’m blessed and highly favored,” and tell myself, “You ain’t nothin’.”  The words I spoke on the inside (in my heart to myself) would be more true than the words I mouthed to you.

In Proverbs 23:7 Solomon was actually talking about a stingy man who tells his guest, “Eat all you want,” when he’s telling himself he hopes they don’t eat up his food because those groceries were expensive. What he said to his “guest” was what he wanted his guest to think he was. What he said to “himself” was who he really was.

 Thinking in Your Heart

  1. Thinking in your heart is taking the thoughts that come in your head that you believe (whether they be good or bad), capturing them, and storing them in your heart.
  2. Thinking in your heart is the conclusions you make to yourself (on the inside) about yourself.
  3. Thinking in your heart is what you think about when you aren’t thinking about anything.

So, what are you really like? To answer that you have to answer “How do you think in your “heart”?” The way you think in your “heart”—not in your “mind”…is what you’re really like…is how you really are.

Start paying more attention to the thoughts that you are letting sink down in your “heart.”

A Prayer for “Open”ness and “Open”ings

Here’s a prayer for “open”ness and “open”ings:

“OPEN”NESS

Heavenly Father…

Open my Eyes (for perception)

  • Give me vision. Allow me to see concealed things; hidden things.
  • Give me vision to see things that are in “play” but not in “sight.”

Open my Ears (for hearing)

  • Give me ears to hear what the spirit is saying to the church.

Open my Nose (for discernment)

  • Give me a keenness for what’s going on; catching your signs & symbols.

Open my Mind (for thinking)

  • Give me new ways of thinking; new processes of thought.

Open my Spirit (for receiving)

  • That I would not miss anything you’re sending my way, both visible and invisible.

…Increase my “open”ness so I will have new “open”ings. So now I pray for “open”nings.

 “OPEN”INGS

I pray for Open Doors (of opportunities)

  • Grant me new opportunities; cause opportunities to pop-up everywhere.
  • Drop opportunities in my lap.

I pray for Open Gates (that the King of glory may come in)

  • Let nothing hinder your glory; let nothing hider your presence.

I pray for Open Windows

  • That light would come; and fresh air for a fresh walk with You.

I pray for Open Pathways (for divine direction)

  • You said, “The steps of a good man/women are ordered by you.”
  • Show me which steps to take; which way to go; which path to choose.

I ask for Open Portals (for walking in dominion)

  • Grant me new strength; new power.

I pray for Open Streams (for multiple sources of income)

  • Give me new ideas; new connections; new inventions.

Grant me Open Ways (for new directions)

  • Give me new ways of doing things; new approaches.

I pray for Open Territories (for taking new grounds)

  • For property acquisition; for new authority in multiple areas.

I ask for Open Terrains (for the ability to handle challenges)

  • Grant me new wisdom to walk in new authority.
  • Give me the ability to handle difficulties with wisdom and grace.

I pray for Open Access (for entry into new levels)

  • New levels; and new dimensions.

Open me up so concealed things are revealed to me. Open me up where I have new vision and new perception. Let me never be left in the dark again!

AMEN

Synchronized Time

Some coincidences are more than just a coincidence.  Some are a literal coinciding or an alignment of forces in the universe to create an event or circumstance.

Synchronized time is when internal forces collide with external forces to create a powerful moment that can literally change your life.

Have you ever had a song in your heart that you hummed throughout the day?  That’s the internal.  Then, someone walks into your presence and starts singing that very song out loud.  That’s the external.  How is that?  Well, what you meditate on, on the inside, will eventually place a demand on the external world and require a response.

Synchronize means to occur, or to cause to occur at the same instant; to cause to agree in time.  Synchronized time is when 2 worlds collide to produce a God moment.  It’s a moment when world’s intertwine—when 2 worlds meet.

Have you ever made a wrong turn and pulled into a gas station to turn around, and run into an old friend that you had lost contact with?  You would not have seen them unless you made the wrong turn.  Something amazing happened that would not have happened unless you went the wrong way.  Synchronized time is when God takes what seemingly is a “mistake” and turns it into something “magical.”

image

Synchronized time is when you just happened to be in the right place at the right time.  It’s an apparent chance meeting where you bump into, or come face-to-face with a person, a group, or an organization who not only has the answer to your problem, the piece to your puzzle, the cure for your hurt, the relief for your suffering, the favor and influence to your obscurity, or the money for your lack, but also has the desire and willingness to offer it to you with no strings attached.

In September of 2006 a friend of mine who had been out of work walked into an office and was approached by someone who asked him if he was looking for a job.  When he said “yes,” the person said, “You can have my job—I’m going to be moving.”  He then took him in the back to meet his employer and they hired him that day.

His visit to that office perfectly collided with a young man who was about to make a geographical move out of the area.  He walked “in” when the guy was walking “out.”  His visit to the office was perfectly synchronized with the young man’s exit out.

There’s chronos, which relates to the sequence of time.  Thus, we get the word chronological from.  Then there’s Kairos, which is a moment in time—a God moment, where an opening appears that requires a quick response from you for success to occur.

There are times in your life where success tomorrow is not good enough—you really need something to happen right now.  God can cause the resource to appear at the exact same time your need reaches it’s point of desperation.  That’s synchronicity.

How to Birth Synchronized Time

  • Minute-by-minute obedience births synchronized time!
  • Obey Me, and then I will be your God, and you will be My people. You must follow every way I command you so that it may go well with you (Jeremiah 7:23) Holman Christian Standard Bible.
  • How would you like to be in the right place at the right time every day of your life? Minute-by-minute obedience to the Spirit of God puts you there!
  • If the Spirit moves you to take a different route home you better take it.
  • If you feel led to shake the hand of a stranger you better do it.
  • If you feel led to buy the guy’s lunch in the line behind you at the local sandwich shop, you better do it.
  • The Spirit of God just might by trying to synchronize you.

The Power of Knowing Your Season!

A season is a special period of time, accompanied by purpose, power, and provision…or a lack thereof.  I’m sure you’ve experienced seasons where you had a sense of purpose, you felt empowered to succeed, and provision was flowing.  Everything seemed to be going right.  You’ve probably also experienced seasons where there was no sense of purpose, no feeling of power, and no money flowing.  Everything seemed to be going wrong.

Do you know what season you’re in right now?  You must discern what season you’re in at any given time so you know what stance to take.  If you’re in a season where everything seems to be going right, that’s the best time to take some risks.  It is likely that unusual favor is flowing towards you in this season.  You must take advantage of that opening.

If you’re in a season where everything seems to be going crazy, you must take a different posture.  Seasons like that call for you to pull together your weapons, get in your war posture, and fight your way out of the madness.

If you’re in a season where unusual provision is flowing in, be aware—that could be a temporary opening.  If so, you might want to use that season of abundance to prepare for a possible future season of scarcity.

Your seasons change.  They are not permanent.  Some seasons even reoccur.

  • The season for prosperity is to prepare you for the season of scarcity.
  • The season for pain is to give you an appreciation for the season of pleasure.
  • The season for research is not the season for launching.
  • The season for meditation is not the season for explanation.
  • The season of hiding is not the season of revealing.
  • The season of peace is to prepare for the season of war.

image

Ecclesiastes 3:1 says, “To everything there is a season…”  Here’s the revelation:

1.  Seasons Are Not Permanent—They’re Going To Change.

The current season you are in is going to change.  You should be constantly asking yourself the question, “What is ABOUT to change?”  You must live in today, but think into tomorrow.  Anticipate what is going to be changing a year from now and start preparing for it.

 2.  To Every Season There is a Reason.

There is a reason why a season has come. It could be a season of warfare because your breakthrough is on the horizon. You could be in a season of reaping tremendous levels of success resulting from long seasons of preparation and education. You could be in a season of testing to determine if you qualify for promotion. There is a reason why this season has come. Pray for the ability to discern the times and seasons, and the wisdom to know what to do in every season.

  1.  There’s a Right Time for Everything.

There is something powerful about a purpose whose time has come. Nothing can stop it. But also keep in mind that every purpose has a timeframe attached to it. The second part of Ecclesiastes 3:1 says, “…And a time to every purpose under the heaven.” So you must be time conscious and purpose conscious. Some windows only open for a short period of time. If you are not ready when the opening occurs, you may never have that opportunity again.

Who’s More Powerful…You or The Day?

I heard Dr. Cindy Trimm say, “One of the first things that God gives you authority over is a day.” If you can’t control a day you will have difficulty controlling your destiny.  If you lose control of a day, then 9 times out of 10 you will be misaligned with your destiny.”

God gives you bite-sized pieces of probation—called days.  And if you have authority over that probationary period, He’ll move you into different levels of authority.  He’ll expand your terrain, and your sphere of rulership.

So, I began focusing on days.  Focusing on today.  Only.  Maximizing days.

Jesus said, “Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things.  Sufficient for the day is its own trouble” (Matthew 6:34).  Here’s the revelation.  3 Things:

1.  Place a Mental Border Around Today

  • Leave tomorrow’s concerns for tomorrow.
  • If you carry tomorrow’s load into today you will exceed your mental, physical, and spiritual capacity for today. The overload will sabotage your ability to make any progress today.

2.  Bring All That You Possibly Have to This Day

  • Don’t conserve part of you for tomorrow. You will receive a new impartation of power tomorrow. “Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh each morning” (Lamentations 3:23 NLT).
  • What if you got up early this morning and decided to focus all that you had on this day, and this day only? What if you decided to bring to this day…
  • Your best focus
  • Your highest energy
  • Your best creativity
  • Your keenest attention
  • Your highest ideas
  • Your highest level of faith
  • Your best ingenuity
  • Your best craftiness
  • Your best habits
  • Your best patterns
  • Your best thoughts

3.  If You Can Do It For a Day You Can Do It For a Lifetime

  • If you can do it today (for one day), then tomorrow, all you have to do is decide that you’re going to do it again (just for 1 day though).
  • Then, the next morning when you get up all you have to do is decide that you’re going to do it again (just for 1 day).
  • Before you know it you will have put together one of the best weeks of your life. If you repeat the pattern each day, before you know it you will have put together the best month of your life.
  • Before you know it you will have put together the best quarter of your life; the best half year of your life; the best year of your life; the best life ever!

When you show that you can take authority over a day God will elevate you to higher levels of authority in life!  Things will start to recognize your authority and obey you.  Things will cooperate with your divine destiny and purpose.

How will you approach tomorrow differently?  Leave a comment.

Focus: The Art of Disconnecting From Distractions

Focus is the art of disconnecting from distractions. A distraction is anything that’s an enemy to your focus. The Apostle Paul understood this when he said, “This one thing I do…” (Philippians 3:13). What is the “one thing” that you’re giving particular attention to in this season? If you can’t answer that question it is not likely that you’re focused.

If you are spreading your energy among too many things you are simply watering down your power. If you garner all of your energy on “one thing,” you are putting the full force of your power in one place. It is the concept behind the laser. The concentration of all the energy in one small place is what results in a generation of so much power.

image

Creativity is the gathering of ideas and options—focus is the elimination of options. Once you have determined the most viable option, it’s imperative to eliminate every distraction. When it becomes clear what direction you should take it also becomes obvious what direction you need to avoid. If you have difficulty eliminating distractions, start practicing ignoring them.

Sometimes focus requires disconnecting from a person (or a group of people) if they are a distraction to what you have deemed to be most important. When you become clear about what you’re all about, it becomes clear who you should avoid.

Here are some additional power points on focus:

  • Your focus is predicting your productivity.
  • Your focus defines what you refuse to spend time on.
  • Your focus may offend those who are not privy to how important it is to you.
  • What you focus on is a reflection of what you have chosen to ignore.
  • Focus is a force.

When you can define your focus and eliminate your distractions you can predict your results.

The Questions You Ask Determines The Answers You Get

  • What if the calendar days of the year were like human beings waiting to see what name you put on their birth certificate?
  • What if each day on the calendar is like an assignment that does not know what to do until it is given instructions?
  • What if wisdom is never “given” to you, but only “gotten” by you?
  • What if you only attract what you become on the inside first?
  • What if God is hiding himself in each of the people you encountered today, but you failed to see Him for seeing the person?
  • What if 90% of the revelation you hear immediately escapes you because it knows that you are not going to use it?
  • What if your words don’t believe you unless you believe them first?
  • What if the greatest works of art ever created and the greatest music ever written was not written on the earth but written in heaven, and released to those with the greatest capacity to see and hear them?
  • What if the money that you urgently need never comes because it never hears its name called?
  • What if God is speaking the loudest through His silence?

image

  • What if you made an effort to unlearn everything you were taught when you came to the earth that is incongruent with what God taught you?
  • What if everyone is born a genius and those who still have that title are those who are the most successful at ignoring what life teaches about limits?
  • What if the next level of life has been waiting for you to enter it, but refuses to allow you in because you refuse to make the changes you know you need to make?
  • What if the money you want in your pocket has been watching you to see if it wants to be in your pocket?
  • What if the job you’ve been seeking refuses to reveal itself until it sees that you’re already working?
  • What if pain was allowed in the earth solely to remind us of the value of pleasure?
  • What if you are the only one capable of obstructing your destiny?
  • What if the only enemies that show up in your life are those who mirror something in you that attracted them?
  • What if you paid as much attention to the thoughts that you’re thinking in your “heart” as you do thoughts that you’re thinking in your “head?”
  • What if every area of your life where there is lack is merely a thought that went unthought?
  • What if all this was true?

Getting Pregnant With Expectation

Your future is sitting there as a blank canvas waiting for you to create it.  Having no expectation is proof you believe your life will stay the same.

“Expectation is the current that drives what happens next”—current as in an electrical charge. Current speaks of flow and it speaks of power. A current is power that flows. Your expectation is a source of power that creates a flow of resources and events to bring your expectation to pass. Even God moves where He is expected. There are certain things that Gods wants to do for you that He requires you to pull out of Him with your expectation.

“Expectation must be accompanied by preparation.” Preparation is proof of expectation. At some point you must prepare for the things that you are praying for and believing for. If I invite you to dinner and you confirm that you are coming, I will immediately begin preparing for you. It’s proof of my expectation. What are you preparing for right now? It is proof that you expect it to materialize.

Expectancy speaks of likelihood. That’s why they call pregnant women “expecting.” The pregnancy is proof that a baby will soon be delivered. The revelation is this—you have to get pregnant with what it is you are looking for.

3 Fool-Proof Ways to Get Pregnant With Expectation:

  1. Get around someone who has already birthed what you’re seeking to have or become.
  • When you look at your mentor you are looking at a prophecy of your future.
  • A teacher can teach you what they know—a mentor can impart what they’ve become.
  • Impartation is impregnation.
  1. Feed on a constant diet of what you desire to have or be.
  • What feeds you is what will lead you.
  • When you eat of what something is, you become like what it is.
  • When you consume enough of what it is you are going after, it will eventually begin pursuing you, and become a part of you. Here’s your chance to legitimately over eat.
  • You will only go as far as the revelation, information, and impartation that’s feeding you.
  • Ask, seek, knock, push, pursue, investigate, chase, hunt, inquire, dig, search, and study.
  1. Become intimate with what it is you’re going after—make some physical contact.
  • Go take a test drive.
  • Call a travel agent and get some details of the country you dream of traveling to.
  • Have a realtor take you through homes like the one that “has your baby kicking.”
  • Ask the person who is already what you hope to become to allow you to accompany them on their next event or engagement.
  • You must touch, taste, and feel what it is you’re going after.

Your Mouth is the Police Department of Your Mind

A thought is one of the most powerful things in the world. If it gets planted in your head it has an opportunity to get birthed in your life.

Where do you store your problems? You store them in your mind. Now that’s not a positive thing—it’s called worry. Worry is the devils anointing. It’s his empowerment and enablement to succeed in your life.

Every thought in your mind is transmitted to the cells in your body. There are cells of your body that are assigned to act as defenders from foreign matter. If your mind is full of confusion, doubt, fear, worry, and anxiety, those thoughts confuse and weaken the cells that are assigned to protect your body against illness. That’s why you hear people saying, “All that stress and worry actually made me sick.” Their “soldier cells” became weakened by what the destructive thoughts deposited in them.

Here’s a strategy. Police every thought that comes to your mind. The apostle Paul was aware of this when he said, “…Bringing EVERY THOUGHT into captivity…” (II Corinthians 10:5b). Your mouth is the police department of your mind.

Don’t let errant, foolish, crazy thoughts roam free in your mind. Here’s what you should do with every crazy thought.

  1.  Hand Cuff It
  • Your mouth is your seat of authority over your mind.
  • Use your mouth to “hand cuff” wrong thoughts so they can’t roam free in your mind.
  • Say things like, “I denounce you—I silence you, and give you no place to operate in my life.”

image

  1. Arrest It
  • How does someone know they are under arrest? The one with authority says, “You’re under arrest.”
  • So, when something crazy enters your mind that you don’t want to see in your life, say, “I arrest you and give you no place to operate in my life!”
  1. Put It In Jail
  • Jesus said in Mark 11:23a—You shall SAY unto this mountain…(your mountain being the thoughts you’ve stored in your head that are plaguing you).
  • You must speak out loud to wrong thoughts.
  • You have to take your policing authority (your mouth) and speak to wrong thoughts, and tell them, “…Be thou removed and cast into the sea (i.e. cast into jail)(Mark 11:23b).

The crazy thoughts that you allow to roam free in your mind are the ones that have the greatest power to enter your life.

Concealed Things Appear When You Get In The Right Place

In 1952 the cure for polio was discovered. However, the cure for polio actually existed prior to 1952 right alongside of polio—but it had to be discovered; it had to be revealed. What cure, what answer, what solution to your problem currently exists right alongside of your problem that you simply need to have revealed to you?

How do you get concealed things revealed to you? The obvious answer would be for you to seek the answers, solutions, and revelation you need. The unobvious answer is to seek the place that gives you the vantage point to see what is being hidden from you.

Not too long ago I was standing outside of a restaurant close to a large tree. A good friend of mine was several feet away from me but I did not know it because the tree was blocking my view of him. He was there but I could not see him. When I took two steps to the left I was surprised to see him standing only ten feet away from me. It was only when I got in the right place that I saw what was there all the time. If you can get in the right place you will be able to see what is there but hidden from you.

Someone from Florida can’t see the city of Detroit until they’ve entered the state of Michigan. There are certain things you will never see if you’re not in the right spiritual state. Maybe it’s not a matter of getting God to reveal things to you but a matter of you getting in a place where you can see revealed things.

How to Get In the Right State:

  1. Rid your mind of all prior thoughts on the matter.
  • If the dilemma still exists that means all the prior thoughts did not produce the solution.
  • Forget about everything that you did to decipher the code in the past. This will allow room for new un-thought thoughts.
  1. Discover the places in your world where you can hear the clearest.
  • It could be a drive into the country, sitting in the patio, on the lake, a walk in the woods, or sitting in the movie theater.
  • Once you discover that place, begin to frequent it for the purpose of hearing and seeing what you can’t hear and see anywhere else.
  • An uncluttered environment is the birthing place for “in”sight.
  1. Open your spirit to new thoughts on the matter that you have never considered.
  • If you’re not ready to record the new information it probably won’t come.
  • There are certain things that God won’t reveal until He knows you’re ready to record them.
  1. Discover what inspires creativity in you.
  • Creativity is attracted to creativity.
  • Go to the places that inspire the most creativity in you.
  • Get in the mindset that you are about to tap into solutions that you have never even considered before.
  1. Worship God as the God of creative power and authority.
  • What you worship Him “as” He will surround you “with.”

Your turn! What do you do to get yourself in the place to be able to see what is being hidden from you?
